Este proyecto de investigación destaca la importancia de abordar el turismo desde una perspectiva dinámica e integradora. La pregunta de investigación planteada es: ¿Cómo reconocer el potencial turístico en destinos emergentes? Para abordarla se propone la matriz GEPO, una herramienta especializada en la evaluación cuantitativa del potencial turístico de un destino emergente, la cual por medio de la evaluación de 4 factores: Geografía, Estructura, Población y Oferta reúnen la información necesaria para brindar un análisis acerca del destino a estudiar y su potencial de desarrollo turístico en el territorio. El objetivo es generar nuevos insumos para analizar la construcción social del turismo en territorios emergentes y ampliar el conocimiento sobre el desarrollo turístico sostenible. La investigación se hizo mediante la revisión de fuentes bibliográficas y se adoptaron algunas ideas de diversos autores como Roberto Boullon, Sergio Molina, Henry Fayol y Adam Smith, así como también se realizaron interpretaciones propias sobre ciertos conceptos.

This research project highlights the importance of approaching tourism from a dynamic and integrative perspective. The research question posed is: How to recognise tourism potential in emerging destinations? To address it, the GEPO matrix is proposed, a tool specialised in the quantitative evaluation of the tourism potential of an emerging destination, which through the evaluation of 4 factors: Geography, Structure, Population and Supply, gathers the necessary information to provide an analysis of the destination to be studied and its potential for tourism development in the territory. The objective is to generate new inputs to analyse the social construction of tourism in emerging territories and to broaden knowledge about sustainable tourism development. The research was carried out by reviewing bibliographical sources and adopting some ideas from different authors such as Roberto Boullon, Sergio Molina, Henry Fayol and Adam Smith, as well as making our own interpretations of certain concepts.
