Resumen
This document characterizes the orange economy segment in the department of Atlántico between 2014 and 2018, emphasizing in the economic variables registered in the Chamber of Commerce of Barranquilla such as number of companies, value of assets, sales, utilities and employment. The relevance of this productive segment is highlighted both in the global context and locally in Colombia, as well as the main stimulus granted by the National Government, in order to facilitate its development. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that the orange economy in the department of Atlántico is made up of the following segments: news agencies and other information services; performing arts and shows; visual arts; audiovisuals; design; editorial; phonography; digital media and content software; and tourism and cultural and intangible heritage. It should also be noted that within the main results of the study mentioned before, 85 out of every 100 companies that make up the orange economy segment in the Atlántico do not exceed five years of age, that is, they are supremely young productive units. During the analysis period, the total assets had an annual real growth rate of 11.7%, while in the number of jobs the index was 9.4%. Finally, it should be noted that Barranquilla contributes substantially to the orange economy of the Atlántico, since the contribution of all the variables presented range between 89% and 99%, with sales and profits standing out. In terms of segments, the most representative are tourism and heritage in relation to the number of companies, jobs and sales; editorial, in assets; and digital media and software content in utilities.
